Proxmox Installation via IPMI – Full Step-by-Step Guide
- Access IPMI / Remote Management
- Open browser and go to the server’s IPMI/iDRAC/iLO address.
- Log in with provided credentials.
- Launch Remote Console
- For Supermicro: Remote Control → Console Redirection → Launch Console.
- For iDRAC: Dashboard → Virtual Console → Launch.
- For iLO: Remote Console & Media → Launch Remote Console.
- Mount Proxmox ISO
- Download the Proxmox VE ISO. << https://www.proxmox.com/en/downloads >>
- Mount ISO via Virtual Media:
* Supermicro: Virtual Media → Virtual Storage → ISO File → Plug in.
* iDRAC: Virtual Media → Map CD/DVD → Select ISO.
* iLO: Virtual Drives → Image File → Browse and Connect.
- Change Boot Order
- Enter BIOS through IPMI.
- Set Virtual CD/DVD or Mounted ISO as the first boot device.
- Save changes.
- Reboot the Server
- Perform a Power Cycle/Reset from IPMI.
- System should boot from the Proxmox ISO.
- Install Proxmox VE
- Select 'Install Proxmox VE'.
- Accept the license.
- Choose the installation target disk.
- Configure filesystem (ext4/ZFS).
- Set root password and email.
- Configure static network settings.
- Start installation.
- Remove ISO and Reboot
- Disconnect virtual ISO from IPMI Virtual Media.
- Reboot server and allow system to boot from disk.
- Access Proxmox Web Interface
- Visit: https://SERVER-IP:8006
- Login:
User: root
Realm: Linux PAM authentication
Password: the one you set during installation.
